Do The Math

If you do the math, you have to come to the conclusion that 150,000 to 180,000 American soldiers cannot hold down an insurgency in a country that is larger than California, with a population of nearly 28 million people. After all, at the height of the war in Vietnam, the United States had around 500,000 soldiers in-country, and South Vietnam was less than half the size of Iraq. We know what the outcome there was, right?

Somebody explain it to me... rationally, and with specificity.

I try to be a rational human being... but the numbers refuse to add up.

We can hold all of the opinions we want... but opinions without facts might feel good, but they don't hold up to scrutiny.

Mr Bush's war, despite all of the military success of removing S. Hussein, will be seen by history as a blundering failure.

wow, you are prolific and quick this morning GF.
Agreed. It doesn't make sense, and there is no way to make it work.
Signed,
also frustrated.

You really want "rational" and "Iraq" in the same sentence? Complete impossibility.

HAH HAH HAH HAH...my word verification is DYK DC!

Bush IS failure in person.
That's about where I stand.
Thanks for the math

I have been seething about this for awhile... and I am reading a novel in which a physicist keeps telling one of the other characters to "do the math", because he wants the man to think through his theories.

His position was that, when applied with real numbers, and honest mathmatics, the truth can be found in anything that is scientifically quantified... which certainly applies to the operational military art.

Apparently no one in Rummy's Department of Defense had the courage to say no.

Julie Pippert of the Raven Picture Mavin has a great GWB post up. You should go see it! I think it's theartfulflower.blogspot.com

When I read this I immediately thought of a line from the film Ghandi, which may or may not have been a real quote. It was something about thousands of Britains cannot control millions of Indians if they simply refuse to behave.

It's one mell of a hess...
that's for sure...
a real hornets nest over there.

UGHHHHH......

I want to know where the fence is that was approved to be built ...

He's not protecting our borders either.
Bush is sure gittin on muh nerves.

And what in the heck is Dingy Harry Reid talking about...
"undocumented Americans???" WHAT IS THAT??

It's not secret that I can't stand politicians. They alllllll have their own agenda ~ not one of them care about the will of the American people.

Yes Terri, it is a hell of a mess. It is one hell of a mess and the sole blame goes to George W. Bush.

I know you don't see him as bad or evil, but he is.

He started a war.

A war that we didn't have to fight.

He and his administration have bungled the war.

Hundreds of thousands of people are dead as a result.

Our armed forces are being wasted.

American prestige around the world is in the toilet.

Our national security is weakened as a result.

The people in this country are more polarized than ever.

Thanks for nothing, Mr Bush, you asshole!

Hi Gunfighter- It's me again. I just had to comment on your remark about American prestige around the world being in the toilet.
I moved to Italy 15 years ago, and back then when I would say I was American, the reaction was really positive, welcoming even. Now that I speak Italian well and can blend in with the masses, I generally don't tell people I'm American anymore, for fear of becoming the punching bag for whoever is standing in front of me.
I'm totally embarrassed. Ashamed even.
It's quite sad...

Bienvenuto, Jennifer!

I feel a great amount of shame with monkey-boy in the White House... but the good thing about it is that he'll be gone soon. Much of the damage Bush has done can be undone with sane leadership from whomever follows him... unless people get scared into voting for another crackpot who vows to "Keep us safe"

Having said that, I feel no shame at being an American... Most rational beings can separate nationality from the idiots that run their countries.

Ciao bella!

(Oh, ain't I special with the Italian?)

Terri, Gunfighter said it all. :)

Ok first I will say that I'm not supporting him in any manner but....

What would American's have said if the president hadn't done anything after the towers had been hit?? Correct he may not have choose the right something to do but please tell me what you would have thought if nothing was done.

And I'd also like to mention since they tend to go hand in hand... Please be mad at the president and such, not at our soldiers just following orders! They really don't get a choice or opinion about why or where they go and fight!!

I hate war.
It's just the most awful thing in the world.

I hate the mess we're in just as you do. I feel sick every time I see that someone was killed or injured ... I love our soldiers.
I pray for them every chance I get.

I hate that there are terrorists all over that want to kill us and will stop at nothing to do that.
I'm scared to death.

I don't know what the answer is... really.

I just don't hate Dubya...I don't hate anyone ... but he's certainly not my favorite person right now.
He needs to address our education and healthcare problems.

Like I said, I can't stand politicians... I don't think any of them are protecting us... not one of them. They are only in the business of being re elected... that's it.

I am just a stay home mom of a medically fragile cardiac baby that "ran out" of health insurance within months of his young life ... and we were left with no good options. Unless you think divorce or adoption are good options. Oh yes, we can move out of state or my husband can "just quit his job" and get another job in hopes of getting more insurance.
What is that?? That's what a rep of the NV insurance commissioners office advised us.

But the poor, prison inmates, terrorists being held in Cuba, babies/children of illegals and people who manipulate the system get the luxury of full medical coverage ~

all while my baby fell thru the cracks ... and my husband is a Gulf War Vet and a police officer who serves this God awful crime ridden city.

Thank God for our P.D. by raising our lifetime cap just in the nick of time ... so we are good "for now."

But, our government certainly didn't have anything to offer my middle class family.
They could care less about me and my baby.

As you can see, I'm a little grumpy over everything right now ... I have my own battles going on with crapola that goes on here in the good ole US of A.

I'm off my soapbox

:-/

I'm frustrated with the whole kit and kaboodle.

Melanie.

Apples and Oranges.

The war in Iraq has nothing nothing nothign to do with the 9/11 attacks.

We invaded Afghanistan, with mixed results... that was something. We captured Khalid sheikh Mohammed. That was something. We captured Ramzi Yusef. That was something. Intelligence and law enforcemnt are disrupting terror cells and access to money. Thats something.

Invading Iraq? Immoral, and illegal.

As for the soldiers. My opposition to the war has nothing to do with them, other than my wish that they weren't there.

They shouldn't be misused like this.

Soldiers and the PResident... hand in hand? Since when?

I'm a veteran of eight years of service in the Marines.... I had seeing my brother Marines being killed for this.

Gunfighter I was not implying you personally thought the things I was talking about... Just putting some things I've heard recently out into the general public! Sorry if I offended!
